How we make money

Right now: no paid links

As of October 20, 2026, japanhow has no affiliate links, no sponsored articles, no paid placements and no lead forms. Links to providers in our guides are plain links to their official pages. Nobody pays us when you click them.

Providers never pay for rankings

No provider can pay for a score, a ranking, a "best for" pick or a place in a comparison. Scores follow our published method, whether or not we ever earn from a provider. A provider that pays us gets no better score, and a provider that doesn't gets no worse one.

How paid links will be labeled

Later, we may join affiliate programs (we earn a fee if you sign up through our link) or agree paid referrals with companies such as real-estate agents or driving schools. Japan's Act against Unjustifiable Premiums and Misleading Representations (景品表示法) treats advertising that hides the fact that it is advertising as a misleading representation: the stealth marketing rules (ステマ規制) in force since October 1, 2023. We will follow those rules and go further:

• Every paid link is labeled "PR" or "Ad" right next to the link itself, not only on this page.
• An article that contains paid links says so near the top.
• Paid placements, if we ever sell them, appear in a clearly separate box marked as advertising, never inside a ranking or a score table.
• This page will list the types of partners we work with.

Referrals and your personal data

If we later offer forms that pass your details to a partner, for example to get a quote from an agent, each form will say exactly who receives your data, ask for your consent for each partner, and collect only what that partner needs. We will never sell your details to an undisclosed party. Our privacy policy will be updated before the first form goes live.
